Ever since I was a little kid I remember every Holy Week being a jam-packed week of Easter traditions. There are trips to the Broadway Market, celebrating Dyngus Day and getting my Easter basket blessed.
But one of the special traditions is the Visitation of Seven Churches on Holy Thursday. I’ve been going since I can remember with a few years work or class taking priority. This year I was back to the tradition and toured the historic Polonia district on the East Side of Buffalo, NY. The night brings with it history, architecture, tradition and faith.
The tradition of visiting seven churches is rooted in traveling with Jesus through his night journey from when he is arrested to when he is imprisoned – each church representing a pivotal moment within that journey.
Below are photos from the visitation of this Holy Thursday.
